McFly Shepherds Bush Empire – 19th October 2010

The venue was packed, to get a good view you either had to be a Pioneer or get there extremely early.

The lights went down and Danny, Dougie, Tom and Harry came on and opened with the first single from their new album,’ Above the Noise’, ‘Party Girl’. The whole crowd are singing along, even though the song hasn’t been out for long.

The second song they played was ‘Nowhere Left to Run’, which is also the name of their 40 minute film.
It starts off simple with just guitar, joined by a subtle bass drum and Tom singing the verse and then it kicks in to the chorus with Danny on lead vocals and Dougie joining with the bass guitar. They then merged it into their very first hit single, ‘Five Colours in her Hair’. It started off slow at first in the opening verse and chorus; it then went to the normal fast paced tempo, everyone was singing along to the lyrics and you could definitely tell who the hardcore fans were, as they were not only singing the lyrics, but in the way that McFly do when performing live.



McFly have sort of gained a new sound, they have definitely progressed since their first album, ‘Room on the 3rd Floor.

As usual when the crowd is asked how they are, McFly are answered by a lot of screaming. Tom then welcomed everyone to the tour and then went on to play his personal favourite off of the album, ‘If You See Kate’, however part way through the song, they stop as Danny had to sneeze. After Danny had sneezed, ‘If You See Kate’ starts up again. It is a new song, so no one sings along, which is rare as quite a lot of the new album had been leaked a few weeks prior to the tour. People were clapping along; all you can see is a sea of hands and cameras. The new song got a good response from the fans, which is always a positive when you are premiering new material.



The next song is a classic from their album Radioactive, ‘Lies’. Of course everyone is jumping around, the entire mosh in front of the stage swarmed whilst singing along.
It then goes in to ‘Falling in Love’; everyone is clapping a singing along until the middle eighth where the song turns in the ‘Star Girl’ (from the album Motion in the Ocean). It is by far one of the crowds’ favourite songs, and instead of the lyrics ‘make a little love in the moonlight’ the last two words were changed to ‘Shepherds Bush’.

The audience was introduced to the backing band and a joke was made about one of the backing vocalists’ boobs.



They then went on to do a cover of ‘Dynamite’ by Taio Cruz, which they had recently performed on the Radio One Live Lounge. It was a rocked up version of the song and everyone knew it as the original version was already rather popular.

The next song was the first track on their new album, ‘End of the World’. Not many fans knew it, but a select few did as it was a song that was able to be downloaded by Pioneers of Super City, it has got the crowds approval.



The next performance was ‘Friday Night’, which is one of the best songs that these four perform live. It gets the crowd excited, which is why in previous tours, they have opened with it.

After ‘Friday Night’, Harry and Dougie go off stage and leave Tom and Danny to do an acoustic version of ‘Too Close for Comfort’. It was outstanding and just beautiful. They haven’t performed that song on a tour in quite some time, so it was nice to hear it again.



Dougie came back on stage for ‘All About You’, which was the Official 2005 Comic Relief Single. The crowd immediately sings along and Harry returns to the stage.
Tom admits he is a perfectionist and is proud of his songs and hopes the fans are too.

The next track was a bit slow but still rocky and is called ‘I’ll be Your Man’. Tom fronts the entire song, it is amazing and a very loving song, it could possibly be a new favourite amongst the fans.



There is a brief interval and the crowd starts to chant ‘McFly!’ over and over as soon as the band leaves for their small break. Anticipation fills the venue as everyone is waiting for their favourite band to come back on stage.



McFly returned to the stage and welcomed, yet again, by screams and played ‘One for the Radio’, which the crowd always enjoy, especially when they put their fists in the air and declare ‘WE DON’T CARE’.

Tom, Dougie and Danny play the backing to ‘Faith’ by George Michael and introduced us to Harry, as he spent the entire show at the back of the stage drumming. He says a few words and says that he can see his mother in the crowd singing along to every song.



Isaac (one of the backing band) plays ‘A Whole New World’ and everyone sings along. The guys then talk about Super City and how it has taken them 2 years to make and that is why they have been absent off the music scene since ‘Radioactive’. In the day that Super City opened its gates there were 10 million hits on the site in 8 hours causing the site to run slow and crash, therefore all citizens of Super City were ushered out of the site and the gates were shut until November 8th where they would re-open the site after dealing with all the glitches.

Seeing as the band played ‘Five Colours in Her Hair’ earlier on in the set, which is unusual (as every McFly tour, apart from Wonderland, ended with Five Colours), they end with their most recent hit, ‘Shine a Light’, which normally would involve Taio Cruz, but for the tour, Tom sang Taio’s parts.

The four definitely ended the show in style and all the fans left happy and with a renewed love of McFly.

Today saw official release of the BRAND NEW MCFLY TRAILER for 'Nowhere Left To Run'.

'Trailer?' I hear you say, yes a trailer. The guys have made a 30 minute mini-movie to create a buzz over their new single, album, look and website.

Personally I can't wait. It is definitely McFly as you have never seen them before, I think even the fans who think they have sold out with their new style of music will watch it.

From what I can tell of the trailer, there is vampires, blood, sex and a pillow fight, plus a whole lot more.

I am back off of my 3 week holiday to America, ok maybe I have been gone from the site a little while longer than 3 weeks but I have been a bit busy, all that matters now is that I am back in action.

So recent news while I have been gone:

Cheryl Cole caught Malaria whilst on holiday in Tanzania with dancer friend Derek Hough. The Girls Aloud star was in intensive care after she collapsed at a photo shoot. Her mother and Derek were constantly at her bedside; thankfully she has since recovered and is back on her feet.The X Factor judge has also been in California recently, but to escape press attention she has been there under the pseudonym ‘Lily English’, but obviously it hasn’t really worked, since the media know about it.

Lindsay Lohan, yet again, has had a run in with the law, and now she is in jail for it. For some reason I am not shocked.

The Mean Girls actress .sentenced to 90 days in jail for DUI and breaking her probation last month. The jail in question is Century Regional Detention Facility in California; former inmates include Paris Hilton and Michelle Rodriguez.

Since being jailed, Lindsay is said to be doing fine and making friends and is surviving by writing music and eating twizzlers. After she is released from her 90 day sentence, which may get reduced in the next few day, the Freaky Friday star is set to go to a rehabilitation facility, which is where the majority of her friends and family thinks she should have gone in the first place.

A number of babies have been either conceived or born in the past few weeks.

- Aaron Johnson and fiancé Sam Taylor-Wood added Wylda Rae to their family on July 7^th.

In the last week 2 stars have come of the closet, Rosanne star, Sara Gilbert, and the most recent X Factor winner, Joe McElderry.

While at the Television Critics Association conference last Wednesday, Gilbert came out publicly and admitted that she was a lesbian.

This never really came as a shock to anyone as she has 2 children (Levi, aged 5 and Sawyer, who is almost 3) with Allison Alder, however she has never publically spoken about her sexuality.

Sara Gilbert said on ‘The Talk’, ‘I don’t think it will be a problem, I don’t ever really think of things being out or in, I just think I am who I am.’

Last week, the most recent winner of X Factor, Joe McElderry, announced to 2 British tabloid newspapers that he is gay.

This all happened after hackers broke into his Twitter account and posted tweets such as ‘It’s been difficult living a lie for so many years...’
At first Joe was angry about what had happened but it made him realise that they weren’t too far from the truth when ‘outing’ him.
The star from South Shields said that it was a turning point, as he thought he should have been more bothered about the prank.
After he realised that he was gay, he rang his mother Eileen and confessed his sexuality to her. She said that she didn’t care if he had a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Simon Cowell has also offered his support.

In movie news, there is to be a new Men In Black film, as well as a live action version of The Little Mermaid and a brand new X-Men movie.
Men In Black III will start filming on September 13^th in New York, and should have a USA release date of 25^th of May 2012.
The film is set to be released in 3D by Sony Pictures and of course Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith will be returning as Agent K and Agent J. The plot so far is that Agent J will be time travelling back to 1969, by using his I Phone, to prevent Agent K being murdered.

The Little Mermaid is to be directed by Joe Wright and no cast has been announced yet. Abi Morgan has written the script for the live action adaptation, which IMDB says is to be released in 2012.

The new X-Men film is to be called X-Men: First Class and it is about the attendees of Xavier’s school, when they were young. The current cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Alice Eve, Nicholas Hoult, Megan Good, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till and Edi Gathegi.
The film starts filming in August and is set for release on June 3^rd 2011.

A new couple on the scene are Kate Hudson and Matt Bellemy.

The pair got together at Coachella in April and went to this year’s Glastonbury together.

Bellemy said, “We had such a good time at Glastonbury. We just have fun together and are seeing how it goes.”
Matt recently met Kate’s mother, Goldie Hawn, and I am assuming that went well as the Muse front man and Almost Famous star have been house hunting, not only in New York but also in the UK.
Kate is said to be ready to leave Los Angeles and move to the UK to be with Matt.
A friend of Kate’s said that she has been swept off of her feet and has fallen for Matt and the idea of moving to Europe.
Who knows maybe they will end up like Michael Buble and Luisana Lopilato who are getting married next year in Argentina.

They met at a party in 2008 and Buble's recent hit single ‘Just Haven’t Met You Yet’ is inspired by her.
The couple are planning to split their time between Canada and Argentina and may also record some Spanish language duets in the future, as now Buble is learning to speak Spanish.

Sometimes I can’t help but think what it would be like if Taylor Momsen got the part of Hannah Montana instead of Miley Cyrus, who recently got rid of her hair extensions and looks so much better for it.

Well now Taylor doesn’t want to be compared to Miley and is cussing everyone that does.
Momsen doesn’t have a problem with Miley personally, but she doesn’t like that he gained huge success from Hannah Montana. Sounds a bit like jealousy to me.
The Gossip Girl star recently told FHM, “I’m not looking to be Miley f***ing Cyrus. I don’t care about the fame. I do it because I love music. I like making records and if people like them, then we’ll go along for the ride.”

She also added, "I'm not dissing Miley personally. However, I do think the Disney bubblegum s**t that the world is living right now is pathetic. I thought we passed that repression. I don't know Miley, but musically we're different. To compare us because of our age is silly."

If Taylor had got the part of Hannah Montana, do you think that she would be saying this and would she be dressing the way she does now? I guess we will never know.

Finally, British band McFly are back, with their new single Party Girl.
Their new single and look proves that they have come a long way from the days of ‘Room on The Third Floor’ as their sound is going through changes.

Party Girl is a far cry from their most recent release of ‘Do Ya’. They have ditched the guitars and gone for a more ‘Futuristic R&B’ sound. Okay well they haven’t completely ditched the guitars but people who are completely new to the band’s sound may not realise that they were first a guitar based group.
The band has been working with Dallas Austin and Taio Cruz on their new album.
Being a fan of the guys from the very beginning, it took me a while to get used to the fact that their sound is changing, but I have grown to like the song very much, however quite a few original McFly fans don’t like their new sound at all, saying that their sound used to be perfect, a bad experiment that the fans hope they will recognize, a new fan from Sweden who loved their old sound, listened to Party Girl and cried as she was so upset that the music had changed, and one fan said that the band is apparently over.
It seems that there is a lot of disappointment in the McFly fan camp. Hopefully when the new album comes out the fans will have got used to the sound.
